Custom-made panel doors become an architectural element,
where the panel doors blend in with the floor and wall.
In several projects, Vahle has worked closely with the architect to integrate the doors into the architecture so that they blend in with the walls.
Now Vahle has transferred the concept to a private residence, where the interior doors blend in with the floor and walls.
Douglas fir door and panels
completely merge together.
This door is made according to our reverse opening principle,
as the sill to be flush with the wall.
Beautiful, solid Douglas fir wood,
for both door leaf and frame.
All metal parts on the doors are made of burnished brass,
to match the rest of the interior.
The strike plate is custom-designed in the same width as the frame,
so the wood is protected when the door opens and closes.
Door, panels and floors are a whole,
tied together by a continuous material.
The doors open into the rooms,
which provides completely calm surfaces in the hallway.
The French doors are also made of Douglas,
to match the solid panel doors.
There is only 2 mm of air between the frame and door leaf on a Vahle Door,
and here it’s a harmonious reflection of the distance between the panels and the frame wood.
A Vahle French Door is always produced with continuous glazing bars,
which are what we colloquially refer to as ‘real glazing bars’.
Interior doors with ultimate demands on materials, craftsmanship and design.
Door, wall and floor blend into one
The homeowner wanted to bring the floor up to the wall and doors. This required close collaboration with Vahle, which resulted in a floor, door and wall that blend into one.
The large, uniform surface creates a unique room experience. The solution is a sign that doors are once again becoming a key design element.
Custom-made wooden door.
Door, wall and floor create one large, warm pine surface.
In this project, wooden doors by Dinesen Douglas mirror the staircase of the same material.
Flush doors with burnished brass
The integrated doors require that all surfaces have the same cut of wood and are finished in the same way. The uniform surface is accompanied by hinges, lock case and strike plate all with a burnished brass finish. As the house has a brass theme throughout, the owner wanted these details to be part of the infill doors.
Complicated to make a door that opens inwards
Vahle Doors always have only 2mm of air between the door leaf and frame, which places high demands on precision. On top of this challenge, the doors had to open inwards, away from living areas and into adjacent rooms. This is a complicated way to make a door, as the hole in the frame must be on the other side of normal practice for the door to open inwards.
Custom-made doors with a special end look
The inner frame was realized by creating a special solution with end panels across the entire frame to avoid wear and tear on the door when opening and closing.
The solution was a special strike plate that Vahle designed for the door; a plate in burnished brass that protects the wood.
